A GSLAC-funded educational initiative that gets students hooked on conservation
The Trout in the Classroom initiative provides local school children with the opportunity to raise trout from eggs to fry, monitor tank water quality, engage in stream habitat study, and learn to appreciate and conserve local water resources. The innovative program, which is funded by the Great Sacandaga Lake Advisory Council (GSLAC) and in collaboration with Trout Unlimited, has already been implemented in Northville Central School District, Edinburg Common School, and Broadalbin-Perth School District. It’s had a powerful impact on students’ understanding of ecosystems and their role in preserving them.
